Ohio State University 1968 National Football Championship Commemorative Print
In 1998, I was approached by a gentleman, Bob Smith, and his son, Matt Smith. Bob, or “Rock” as was his usual moniker, played tight end on the 1968 Ohio State football team that won the national championship. They had an idea to commemorate that victory for its 30th anniversary while also raising money for the The Woody and Anne Hayes 1968 National Championship Athletic Scholarship Fund. So began a labor of love and herculean effort to create a memorabilia piece like no other.
The concept was simple enough: create a commemorative print that would be hand signed by all living players from that team. The original Signature Series was produced in a limited edition of 205 (one for each of Coach Woody Haye’s victories at Ohio State) and was hand signed by 80 of the living players and coaches from the 1968 team. The print was also hand signed and numbered by me as the artist and came complete with a Certificate of Authenticity. Each individual print represented one of Coach Woody Haye’s victories at Ohio State. For example, print #117 represents Coach Haye’s 117th win, the 1968 Rose Bowl. The Certificate of Authenticity included a game summary of the print it represented. The Signature Series was printed on high quality, archival paper in order to provide enjoyment to generations of Buckeye football fans. The was sized at 24” x 30″, with enough bleed for framing.
